The USF Pre-College Program: Biochemistry of Aging (AI Focus) is a two-week immersive experience for high school students interested in the intersection of biology, chemistry, and artificial intelligence. Students will delve into how proteins change as they age and how AI tools are revolutionizing this field of study. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of protein structure and function, age-related chemical modifications, and how these molecular changes contribute to disease and tissue degeneration. Through hands-on computational projects, participants will utilize state-of-the-art AI tools like AlphaFold to visualize protein structures, model aging-related changes, and analyze the impact of alterations on protein function. Students will formulate and test hypotheses, compare protein models, and learn to communicate scientific findings through posters and presentations, gaining authentic experience in computational biochemistry. The program also includes career exploration through guest speakers and excursions to Bay Area companies and research labs applying AI and AlphaFold technologies.
From 9:00am–5:00pm weekdays, students participate in classes and activities, with lunch included.
