The USF Pre-College Program: AI in Action – Turning Data Into Solutions is an immersive, in-person certificate program designed to introduce high school students to the fundamentals of AI and data science through hands-on, collaborative projects. Students will work in teams to analyze real-world public datasets, including those related to California environmental and health issues. The curriculum covers the complete data science workflow, from problem definition and data exploration to cleaning, visualization, basic machine learning, and communicating results through formal presentations. Participants will gain experience with industry-standard tools like Google Cloud Platform and modern generative AI technologies, culminating in a datathon-style challenge where they apply concepts in a challenge-driven environment. The program emphasizes responsible and ethical AI integration, teaching students to leverage AI tools effectively while understanding their capabilities and limitations. Students will develop strong skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and scientific communication, creating portfolio-ready work that can be used for college applications.
