About this camp

The Stanford AIMI Summer Research Internship is a two-week virtual program designed for high school students interested in the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare. Participants engage in a blend of lectures, mentorship, and collaborative project work to understand how AI is developed and applied in clinical and research settings. Students attend introductory and technical lectures led by Stanford researchers, clinicians, and trainees, covering topics such as machine learning basics, medical imaging AI, clinical applications, datasets, model evaluation, and responsible AI. They are placed into small teams with Stanford Student Leads and research mentors to work on focused health AI research projects, learning to frame questions, explore data, and communicate findings. Dedicated hands-on project sessions allow students to apply lecture concepts and build teamwork and problem-solving skills. The program also features a "Meet-the-Expert Speaker Series" with guest speakers from various sectors sharing insights on real-world AI applications and career pathways. Students who successfully complete the program receive a Certificate of Completion from the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging (AIMI).
