ROAR Academy is an intensive two-week program at UC Berkeley designed for high school students interested in STEM careers, particularly in AI, Robotics, and Data Science. Participants will engage in hands-on learning of Python programming, autonomous driving algorithms, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs). The curriculum includes a quick refresher on Python, followed by in-depth topics such as iterable variables, functions, hashing, NumPy, scientific visualization, gradient descent, deep neural networks, convolutional neural networks, PID control for lane following, reinforcement learning, and Generative Pretrained Transformers (GPT). The program culminates in ROAR simulation competitions where students race their autonomous driving agents in a software environment. Students gain practical skills in developing AI algorithms and receive a certificate of completion, with opportunities to become ROAR Ambassadors.
A typical day runs from 9 AM to 3 PM, including lectures, Q&A sessions, coding exercises, and a lunch break.
